Unagi Udon Recipe
If you're looking for a delicious and hearty dish, Unagi Udon is an excellent choice. This Japanese noodle soup combines the rich flavor of grilled eel (unagi) with thick udon noodles in a savory broth. Follow this simple tutorial to create a delightful Unagi Udon at home.
Ingredients
- 200g udon noodles
- 2 fillets of unagi (grilled eel)
- 4 cups dashi broth (you can use instant dashi powder)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon mirin (sweet rice wine)
- 1 tablespoon sake (optional)
- 1 green onion, chopped (for garnish)
- Shredded nori (seaweed, for garnish)
- Jalapeño slices (optional, for a spicy kick)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Udon Noodles:
Cook the udon noodles according to the package instructions. Usually, they need about 8-10 minutes in boiling water. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
2. Make the Broth:
In a large pot, combine the dashi broth, soy sauce, mirin, and sake (if using). Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
3. Add the Unagi:
Carefully place the unagi fillets into the simmering broth. Cook for about 3-5 minutes, allowing the eel to heat through and infuse the broth with its flavor.
4. Combine Noodles and Broth:
Add the cooked udon noodles to the pot, stirring gently to combine everything. Allow it to warm for an additional 2-3 minutes.
5. Serve:
Ladle the Unagi Udon into bowls. Garnish with chopped green onions, shredded nori, and jalapeño slices if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Unagi Udon!
Tips
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a touch of sesame oil to the broth.
- If you can't find fresh unagi, look for pre-packaged grilled eel in Asian grocery stores.
- Experiment with additional toppings such as mushrooms or bok choy.
Enjoy your cooking and the delightful taste of Unagi Udon!
