Tempura Set
Tempura Set Cooking Tutorial
Tempura is a traditional Japanese dish known for its light and crispy batter. It typically consists of seafood and vegetables that are deep-fried to perfection. This tutorial will guide you through making a delicious tempura set at home.
Ingredients
- For the batter:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cold water
- 1 large egg
- Ice cubes (optional)
- For the filling:
- 200g shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 medium sweet potato, sliced
- 1 zucchini, sliced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms
- For frying:
- Vegetable oil
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
Wash and cut the vegetables into even slices. Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel. This will help the batter stick better.
Step 2: Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, egg, and cold water. Whisk gently to create a batter. Be careful not to overmix; it's okay if there are some lumps. For an extra crispy texture, you can add a few ice cubes to the batter.
Step 3: Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. To check if the oil is ready, drop a small amount of batter into the oil. If it sizzles and rises to the surface, it's ready for frying.
Step 4: Fry the Tempura
Dip each piece of shrimp and vegetables into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place them into the hot oil, frying in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
Step 5: Serve
Arrange the tempura on a serving plate. You can serve it with a dipping sauce made from soy sauce, mirin, and dashi, and garnish with grated daikon and green onions if desired.
