Dragon Roll
Dragon Roll Recipe
The Dragon Roll is a popular sushi dish, known for its beautiful presentation and delicious flavors. This sushi roll typically includes shrimp tempura and avocado, topped with eel and drizzled with sweet sauce. Here's how to make a Dragon Roll at home!
Ingredients
- 2 cups sushi rice
- 2.5 cups water
- 1/2 cup rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 sheets of nori (seaweed)
- 1/2 pound shrimp tempura (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 avocado, sliced
- 1/2 cup eel, grilled (unagi) or smoked
- 2 tablespoons eel sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- Wasabi and pickled ginger (for serving)
Instructions
- Prepare the Sushi Rice: Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rinsed rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Season the Rice: Once cooked, transfer the rice to a large bowl. In a small saucepan, heat the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Pour this mixture over the rice, gently folding it in to season without smashing the grains.
- Assemble the Sushi Roll: Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface and put a sheet of nori on top, shiny side down. Wet your hands and spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving about an inch at the top edge.
- Add Fillings: In the center of the rice, place a few pieces of shrimp tempura and avocado slices. Roll the sushi tightly from the bottom using the mat to help you.
- Top the Roll: Carefully transfer the roll seam-side down to a cutting board. On top of the roll, arrange the grilled eel slices in a decorative pattern.
- Slice the Roll: Using a sharp, wet knife, cut the roll into 6-8 pieces. Clean the knife with a damp cloth after each cut to ensure clean slices.
- Drizzle with Sauce: Drizzle eel sauce over the top of the sliced roll and sprinkle sesame seeds for garnish.
Serving
Serve the Dragon Roll with wasabi, pickled ginger, and additional eel sauce on the side. Enjoy your homemade sushi!
